My recent experiences with an Unemployment Appeal has been much more challenging than I had anticipated. Deciphering anything that had to do with law was difficult, since lawyers speak a language all their own. 
It was nearly impossible for me to keep my emotions separate from the issues I was addressing, so early on I tried to hire an attorney to help me. A trusted attorney explained that employment law is tricky, and suggested an attorney that specializes in that field. I called him, and a few others, but they either didn't handle unemployment cases, didn't return my call, or didn't have the time. 
I proceeded on my own, and found I was no match for a pro-employer ALJ, and an employer who had no problem lying in order to avoid paying unemployment. 
That is when I saw a youtube video that Mr. Mormann made. I noticed that he was an ALJ for Iowa Workforce for 20+ years, and had recently retired. Mr. Mormann does not live in my area, so I was hesitant to call him at first, but knowing his background, I decided he would be worth the extra effort. I was not disappointed. He was extremely knowledgable, as I expected. He was also very prompt in returning my calls and emails, and I felt completely at ease talking to him about my situation. My only regret is that I didn't ask him to help me earlier. 
I understand that It is difficult to pay bills when you find yourself unemployed, which in turn makes it difficult to justify paying for an attorney. But consider this scenario, you are granted unemployment benefits, and then the employer appeals the decision, and wins. You have paid bills with the benefits that you had received. Now you get a notice from the State which tells you that you were "overpaid" and you are expected to pay every penny back. Attorney costs are a fraction of what the State is expecting you to repay. In the long run, having a knowledgable attorney can actually save you thousands of dollars. 
I doubt that there is another attorney more qualified to help you get, and keep, your Unemployment benefits like Mr. Mormann can. He doesn't charge for his initial consultation, so if you think you might need a lawyer, call Mr. Mormann, it won't cost you a dime. Get him onboard early on, you will be glad you did.

I was very grateful for the expertise and commitment shown by Mr. Mormann during my unemployment case. He helped me remain optimistic throughout the entire process even though others made me feel hopeless. As busy as he must be, we always found time to make sure I was prepared for anything that would come up.
